Professionals Invited to Participate in Health Science College and Career Fairs at Olympic

(February 3, 2014) The School of Biotechnology, Health and Public Administration at Olympic High School will host Health Science College and Career Fairs this spring. We would like to extend an invitation for you or a representative of your business or organization to participate in these events.

Olympic

The objective of the Health Science College and Career Fairs is to help our students explore a variety of careers in the healthcare, health informatics, and other health science fields. We are asking career professionals to share information about their specific career and their personal experience in a series of small group discussions. During the fairs, students will be organized into small groups. Using a speed dating format, the students will have the opportunity to meet and interview with several career professionals.

Dates for the Health Science College and Career Fairs:
March 12th (9th grade students)
March 19th (10th grade students)
April 2nd (11th & 12th grade students)

Schedule:
12:00 p.m.-12:30 p.m. Arrival and Set-up
12:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. College and Career Fair

Preparation:
We would like you to provide a general career overview (job description, education requirements, skill requirements, work conditions, and salary range) and your story (What is your specific job? Where do you work? What do you see as the positives of the job and the challenges? What school(s) did you attend? What work experience is needed to prepare for your job? How did you get interested in the career? What tips would you suggest for someone interested in this career?).

You will be seated at a table and will speak informally for 5 to 7 minutes to a small group of students. The student will ask additional questions. You will meet with 8 to 10 groups of students for a total of 50 to 60 students during the career fair time. Visuals, such as materials/equipment that you use in your job, are helpful. Please do not bring any “give-aways” such as candy, pens, etc. We ask that you wear your professional attire.

Please contact Jeanne Smith (Jeanne.smith@cms.k12.nc.us) if you would like additional information or if you would like to participate in one, two or all three career fairs. We would appreciate a response by March 1st.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Smith
