McDowell Park Programs: Family Camping and Basic Paddling Class

(April 2, 2005) The McDowell Nature Preserve and Nature Center at 15222 York Road are offering the following programs in April:

FAMILY NATURALIST WEEKEND

The McDowell Nature Center is hosting a Family Naturalist Weekend on April 22-23, 2005. Have you had the desire to take your family camping, but don't want to go far from home? Then join us as a family where you will go on an owl prowl, roast marshmallows, bird watch and discover the hidden natural treasures in your own backyard. Great for beginners and old pros alike, this overnight adventure is one to be remembered! Check-in begins Friday afternoon and the activities conclude by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. This program costs $10/adult and $5/child and is open to all ages. Tents provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 704-588-5224.

BASIC PADDLING CLASS

The McDowell Nature Preserve is offering a Basic Paddling class on April 23, 2005 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Let our experienced instructors introduce you to the basic skills and strokes of still water canoe and kayak paddling before giving you a chance to venture out into the coves of Lake Wylie. This program costs $10/person and is open to ages 10 and older. All equipment is provided. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
