Historical Society Meetings for August and September

(July 25,  2004) The next meeting of the Steele Creek Historical And Genealogical Society will be on Monday August 30, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Steele Creek Library at 13620 Steele Creek Road. The  speaker will be Mike Scoggins of the Historical Center of York County. He plans to talk about the Revolutionary War in the South.

Mrs. Ann Williams will speak on September 27. She is the author of "Your Affectionate Daughter, Isabella." The book is a historic tale gleaned from letters found in the Hugh Torrence house in northwestern Mecklenburg County. (Park Road Books has the book for sale.) Tours of the Hugh Torrence house and store are offered from 2 to 5 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month through September.

The Steele Creek Historical And Genealogical Society meets the last Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (except July and December) at the Steele Creek Library. Dues are $15.00 payable by January each year.

A quarterly newsletter, Gleanings, is published in January, April, July, and October. Copies of Gleanings and other documents on Steele Creek history from the Society's collections will be housed at the new Steele Creek Branch Library.
