Post subject:  Meck Soil and Water Conservation Board vacancy

RESPOND BY DEC 15, 2011.

The Mecklenburg County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors is now taking letters of interest from citizens of the county to fill an unexpired term on the board due to a resignation.

The Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District (MSWCD) is a governmental subdivision of the state of North Carolina, and a public body, corporate and politic, organized according to the Soil and Water Conservation District Law, operating within the powers set forth in the Law. The MCSWCD is a local organization working with residents, agencies and business owners to plan and direct programs for the conservation and development of natural resources in our county.

Each soil and water conservation district is administered by a five (5) person board of supervisors. Three of these supervisors are elected at the same time as the regular election of county officers. This election is nonpartisan and is conducted by the respective county board of elections. Two (2) supervisors are appointed by the North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Commission upon the recommendation of the local district board of supervisors. All five supervisors serve terms of office that are four (4) years in length. This opening has three years left on the term and is an elected slot so the person selected would have to run for re-election in 2014 to remain on the board.

We meet monthly on the 4th Monday at 6:00pm at the Hal Marshal Center (700 N. Tryon). Our meeting last approx. 2 hours. You will also be expected to attend the state association meeting each January (2-3 days) and semi annual regional meetings (1/2 day).

You can read more about the district and our activities at

Please email all letters of interest by December 15th to Gray Newman, Board Chair:
