Make your Highway 160 Comments NOW!

(August 28, 2025) The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) has opened a public comment period on the 2026-2035 Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) through Friday, September 19 at 5:00 pm. The TIP identifies the transportation projects and strategies that CRTPO and NCDOT plan to undertake over the next ten years. All projects receiving federal funding must be in the TIP. The draft project maps are posted on the 2026-2035 TIP Page of the CRTPO website.

The TIP includes two Highway 160 projects:

TIP - U-5766A
ROUTE - NC 160
DESCRIPTION - South Carolina line to NC 49 (South Tryon Street). Widen to multi-lanes.
Right Of Way Year - 2025
Construction Year - 2030

TIP - U-5766B
ROUTE - NC 160
DESCRIPTION - NC 49 (South Tryon Street) to I-485. Widen to multi-lanes.
Right Of Way Year - 2026
Construction Year - 2029

Please take this opportunity to let decision makers know that these Highway 160 projects should be a priority. Cite congestion, accidents, delays in the projects, giving low priority to Mecklenburg projects, and other reasons.

Email your comments to email@crtpo.org or Neil.Burke@charlottenc.gov. Include "2026-2035 TIP" in the subject line of your email. Include the TIP IDs (U-5766A and U-5766B) in your message.

See the CRTPO Press Release below to see other ways to comment.

Steele Creek comments initially helped get the Highway 160 projects into the TIP. Additional comments may help move them up in priority.
