New Greenway Trail Construction to Begin in 2023 (March 4, 2023) Karl Froelich, Chair of the Greenway Committee and Past President of the Association, gave an update on plans for greenway trails at the Steele Creek Residents Association Annual Meeting on February 23. The original .6 mile section of the Walkers Branch Greenway was built by the developers of RiverGate. This section was resurfaced and upgraded in 2019 when the .6 miles of Phase 2 were completed from RiverGate to Smith Road. Construction will begin in 2023 on an additional 1 mile section of trail north of S Tryon Street continuing to Sledge Road. Also in 2023, construction will begin on the .6 mile extension of the Hoover Creek Greenway Trail along the south side of RiverGate Shopping Center. A short section of this trail already exists at Highway 160. When these trails are complete, Steele Creek and the RiverGate area will have about 4 miles of paved trails.
